Kolkata, June 29 -- The iconic electricity-driven trams, which were largely phased out in 2024 due to mounting losses, may be headed for a major revival on the streets of Kolkata under the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regime as it attempts to breathe new life into the environment-friendly transit system, transport minister Arjun Singh has said. The recently elected BJP government has now engaged the Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES) to conduct a survey to help revive the service.
