BJP denies rift amid dissent over Assam poll ticket allocation
New Delhi/Guwahati, March 21 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership on Friday sought to downplay reports of a rebellion among its leaders in Assam, amid rumblings within the state unit over ticket distribution ahead of the assembly elections.
After the BJP gave tickets to over a dozen Congress turncoats -- including Pradyut Bordoloi from Dispur and Bhupen Kumar Borah from Bihpuria -- a section of leaders in the state have expressed unease over being overlooked for tickets.
The party's sitting MLA from Dholai, Nihar Ranian Das, resigned from the party's primary membership, protesting against the decision to field Amiya Kanti Das from the constituency.
