Bettiah, Aug. 22 -- Five people died and two others were injured after a speeding bus allegedly ran over them while they were watching an orchestra programme organised as part of the Chhathi ceremony of a newborn in a village near Lauriya in Bihar's West Champaran late Friday evening, police said.

The crowd spilled onto the road while watching the programme when a speeding bus allegedly lost control and ploughed into the gathering around 11pm at Bankatwa Parautola, Lauriya's station house officer (SHO) Inderjeet Paswan said.
