KOLKATA, June 4 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal has decided to scrap the Tajpur deep-sea port project in East Midnapore district proposed by the previous Mamata Banerjee administration and will shift the location of the proposed greenfield port to Dadanpatrabar, a coastal village 10km away.

The Tajpur project was not viable due to paucity of land around the proposed project, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari said after a meeting with Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. On Wednesday, Adhikari met Karan Adani, managing director of Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd and son of business tycoon Gautam Adani, at the state secretariat.
