Asian Games: Ministry to review below-par performance of elite athletes under TOPS
New Delhi, Oct. 8 -- The Sports Ministry will thoroughly review the Asian Games performance with respective federations, especially looking at how 89 experienced athletes in the contingent of around 500 failed to win a single medal in Aichi-Nagoya.
Thirty-four of these experienced athletes, who have competed in multi-disciplinary events before, are under the Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS), and Rs.27.16 crore has been spent on them.
Given the support provided by the Sports Ministry through exposure tours, coaches and competition, India expected a better performance from its elite athletes and those under the TOPS scheme.
