India, July 1 -- Hours before his scheduled retirement, suspended IAS officer Pardeep Kumar was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the alleged embezzlement of Rs.504 crore from Haryana government accounts maintained with IDFC First Bank in Chandigarh, officials said on Tuesday.

Kumar, who was posted as member secretary of the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB), was suspended by the Haryana government earlier. The CBI said he had been evading investigation for some time and was arrested after the agency traced his whereabouts, according to an earlier HT report.
