Appointment of non-Muslims in MP Waqf board sparks controversy
Bhopal, July 7 -- Members of Madhya Pradesh's Muslim community and state opposition leaders on Monday said they intended to move the Supreme Court against the appointment of a BJP leader and a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionary to the state Waqf Board as non-Hindu representatives.
The All India Muslim Teohar Committee staged protests in several cities. In Bhopal, convener Shamshul Hasan led a rally in the walled city to demand the move's withdrawal. "Waqf is a religious and social institution of the Muslim community, where people dedicate their property for the sake of God... Will they allow a non-Hindu in panels for religious places like Ram temple in Ayodhya, Somnath temple in Gujarat and Mahakal temple in Ujjain?"
