India, April 2 -- A 54-year-old police officer in Akola has been suspended after he allegedly demanded sexual favours from a woman in custody, even suggesting she send her daughter to him in exchange for release, according to the police.

The allegations came to light late Tuesday when the 45-year-old detainee lodged a complaint with senior police officers. The situation escalated after a video surfaced on social media purportedly showing senior officers confronting the accused, assistant police sub-inspector Rajesh Jadhav, triggering outrage over abuse of authority within the police force.
