India, Aug. 23 -- A property tax hike approved by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) last week without discussion has once again put the spotlight on the demand to live-stream the civic body's General Body meetings. Opposition parties have renewed the demand, while BJP leaders have also backed it, saying residents should be able to see how important civic proposals are discussed and approved.

The issue came up after the last week meeting on August 17, during which a resolution to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for cluster development in Thane was also approved. Opposition leaders alleged that important proposals were being passed without adequate discussion.
