India, Aug. 14 -- The national capital has been fortified as it prepares to celebrate the 80th Independence Day on August 15. Delhi Police and security forces have beefed up surveillance and intensified checks across the city.

The deployment of police personnel has been increased with forces being stationed at strategic points. The security forces are also carrying out intensified checks at entry and exit routes of the national capital.

Public places across Delhi are under heightened surveillance as movement of large number of people is expected.

The security arrangements come ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on August 15.
