New Delhi, Oct. 14 -- The Delhi government has made Aadhaar authentication or proof of possession of an Aadhaar number mandatory for consumers seeking electricity subsidy, according to a notification issued by the power department, as it prepares to introduce an opt-in system under which beneficiaries will have to renew their choice annually to continue receiving the benefit. Officials said the new requirement will not immediately affect existing beneficiaries, who will continue to receive the subsidy until the proposed opt-in system is finalised.
