Ahmedabad, July 19 -- At least nine people were killed and seven injured after a fire broke out at a firecracker unit, suspected to be operating illegally, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on Saturday, police said. People familiar with the matter said the unit's licence had been revoked but it continued to operate. Police have booked three people and launched efforts to arrest them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs.2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs.50,000 for those injured. P8
