5 bodies found in nepal hydro tunnel after weeks-long OP
New Delhi, Sept. 17 -- Five bodies were recovered on Wednesday from inside a tunnel at Nepal's Chilime 22 Hydropower project, bringing an end to an almost 21-day operation by rescuers from Nepal and India.
While over 900 people were reported missing across 11 hydropower projects after the flash floods in Nepal, the operation at Chilime in Nepal's Rasuwa offered the strongest possibility of finding survivors.
The Nepalese Army said in a statement, "During search operations at Chilime Hydro, a joint rescue team including divers today made a breakthrough in the tunnel and searched up to the far end, finding 4 bodies and 1 human body part. The recovered bodies and human remains have been brought to Trishuli by a Nepali Army helicopter."
