4 FIRs filed as Qaumi Morcha protest brings Chandigarh to standstill
Chandigarh, Aug. 17 -- Four FIRs were registered on Sunday, a day after the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha's march to the residence of Punjab governor on Independence Day brought the city to a standstill.
The main FIR was registered under Arms Act and various sections of BNS for rioting and under Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at the Sector 36 police station over how Qaumi Insaaf Morcha and other organisations assembled at the Sector 51/52 dividing road, blocked the road and tried to break the police barricades to enter Chandigarh. They were carrying posters, swords, axes, spears and other weapons and raised slogans demanding the release of Sikh prisoners.
