New Delhi, May 18 -- A detailed fire risk and infrastructure assessment commissioned by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) in 2011 flagged severe gaps in Delhi's firefighting infrastructure, staffing and emergency response, recommending large-scale expansion and modernisation. More than 15 years later, most of its recommendations are yet to be implemented.
Officials acknowledged that while the number of fire stations in the Capital had increased, staffing, equipment and coverage in peripheral and congested areas continued to fall well short of the report's recommendations. P5
