New Delhi, March 3 -- The ministry of home affairs has formed two empowered committees under citizenship rules for processing the citizenship applications in West Bengal, according to a notification issued on Monday. The committees will be led by officers of no less than deputy secretary rank to the central government nominated by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India. The government had notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 on March 11, 2024 for all states/UTs. The rules envisage the manner of application form, procedure for processing applications by DLC and scrutiny and grant of citizenship by State Level Empowered Committee (EC).
