100 murder cases taken away from UP judge who gave 22 death penalties
Meerut, Aug. 20 -- The district and sessions judge in Muzaffarnagar has transferred 100 murder cases pending before judge Ravikumar Diwakar, who sentenced 22 convicts in nine cases to death between April and August this year, people aware of the matter said on Wednesday.
The recalled cases will now be heard by the district and sessions judge. Assistant district government counsel (Criminal) Kuldeep Kumar, representing the prosecution in the fast track court, confirmed that all 100 files recalled by district judge Birendra Kumar Singh relate to murder cases.
