India, May 12 -- Uttar Pradesh higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyaya on Monday said he will write to the Centre seeking the removal of certain popular nursery rhymes from school syllabi, arguing that they were "against Indian values". Last week, Upadhyaya had objected to poems such as "Johnny Johnny Yes Papa" and "Rain Rain Go Away", claiming they promote dishonesty and selfishness among children. Addressing a press conference at the state secretariat, he said he will write to Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting that the poems be removed from the syllabus.
