India, Aug. 14 -- As India prepares to celebrate Independence Day, Hindustan Times revisits some of the most iconic Independence Day speeches delivered by the country's Prime Ministers. In the thirteenth episode of the series, we revisit former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's address from the Red Fort on August 15, 2013.
Singh began his speech by expressing solidarity with the people of Uttarakhand, which had been devastated by severe floods and landslides two months earlier. He paid tribute to members of the armed forces and rescue teams who lost their lives while helping those affected by the disaster.
