'Open-ended questions misleading': Kharge, Rahul Gandhi write to PM Modi, flag caste census concerns
India, Aug. 25 -- Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have objected to the way caste details are proposed to be collected in the upcoming census in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said accurate caste data was important for making social justice policies and understanding the socio-economic condition of different communities.
They said the government's decision to use an open-ended question to record caste details could lead to problems. "Your government has chosen the method of recording caste information in the census using open-ended questions, which is misleading," they said in the letter.
