India, March 25 -- Two years after winning the Jorhat Lok Sabha seat, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s sitting parliamentarian Topon Kumar Gogoi, Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi, 43, is back in the electoral fray. Gaurav Gogoi, a three-time Parliament member since 2014, is contesting his first assembly election against the BJP's Hitendra Nath Goswami, 67, from Jorhat.
Goswami and Gaurav Gogoi filed their nomination papers on Monday. A Congress stronghold, Jorhat has elected Goswami twice since 2016. The two candidates are seen as gentlemen who do not indulge in mud-slinging.
