India, Aug. 26 -- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and actor Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday hit back at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his "smash the patriarchy" jibe, amid a controversy over actor Kriti Sanon's attire in a Raksha Bandhan advertisement.

The advertisement was pulled down on Wednesday.

In a cryptic Instagram story on Saturday, Ranaut posted caricatures of herself and an apparent Gandhi figure - with "Gandhi" declaring "Smash the patriarchy," and "Ranaut" cutting in with "Bro, wait. Bharat Mata ki Jay. Shuru karte hai," seemingly poking fun at performative feminism.

The Instagram story came hours after Gandhi backed Sanon who found herself in the crosshairs of the controversy over her Rakhi advertisement attire.
