'Anti-national': Amit Shah on Congress decision to sing first two stanzas of Vande Mataram
India, Aug. 20 -- Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress over its decision to sing only the first two stanzas of Vande Mataram at party events, calling it "anti-national" and accusing the party of pursuing vote-bank appeasement.
Shah's statement came a day after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) decided to abide by its 1937 resolution on Vande Mataram and sing only two stanzas of the national song, instead of its full rendition, at all party events.
In a statement posted on X, Shah said the Congress decision was an "open defiance of the law" and linked the 1937 decision to the sentiments that eventually led to Partition in 1947.
