Goa, Sept. 1 -- Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has pledged to provide subsidised support to coconut growers for five years if his government comes to power, while also aiming to position Goa as the "coconut capital of India."

Sardesai said his proposed measures would focus on addressing challenges faced by coconut farmers, including the emergence of new diseases affecting cultivation.

He said greater technical knowledge, hybrid coconut varieties and modern cultivation practices could be introduced to improve productivity and support the sector.
