Goa, Nov. 3 -- The United States has carried out fresh strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island, according to US officials, even as President Donald Trump indicated that diplomatic talks with Tehran were making progress.

An official, speaking to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the targets were Iranian personnel who had used surface-to-air missiles against US assets. Reports suggest that the strikes were part of a series of limited military operations allegedly conducted by Washington in recent weeks.

Some US officials described the latest strikes as defensive, saying they were intended to deter Iran from attacking commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
