Goa, April 29 -- The United Arab Emirates has stunned the energy world by announcing its exit from OPEC and OPEC+, saying it will now pursue its national interests amid the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran.

The move, effective Friday, marks a major blow to the oil cartel at a time of heightened tension and a historic energy shock. With around 4.8 million barrels per day of crude capacity, the UAE has long been a key Gulf producer and quota‑setting player within the group.

Energy Minister Suhail Mohamed al‑Mazrouei described the decision as a policy‑driven shift after reviewing current and future production strategies, without prior consultation with Saudi Arabia or other members.
