Goa, Oct. 13 -- A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) alleged that a woman attempted to attack former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with a knife near her residence in Kolkata's Kalighat area on Tuesday evening.

The Kolkata Police, however, issued a separate statement describing the event as a heated altercation without making any explicit mention of a weapon or physical assault, confirming that the woman involved had been taken into custody for investigation.
