Goa, June 10 -- A tanker caught fire off the coast of Oman, leaving one crew member dead and two others missing, as rescue operations continue in the region.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf following fresh military exchanges between the United States and Iran. Washington said it carried out strikes on Iranian targets near the Strait of Hormuz in response to the downing of a US Apache helicopter.

Iran, in turn, threatened a stronger response and claimed attacks on US military bases in the region. Iranian media reported that the situation along the southern coast has since calmed, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the tanker blaze and search for the missing crew members.
