Goa, May 9 -- Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal on Friday, marking a major political shift in the state's history.

Adhikari succeeds Mamata Banerjee, who had held the top post for the past 15 years since 2011. His swearing-in also marks the formation of the BJP's first government in West Bengal.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in Kolkata in the presence of several senior BJP and NDA leaders. Adhikari's rise to the Chief Minister's post comes after the BJP secured a decisive victory in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
