Goa, April 17 -- Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed concerns in the Lok Sabha, stating that fears around southern states losing representation under the Delimitation Bill, 2026 are "misconceptions".

Speaking during the special session of Parliament of India, Shah backed the Centre's proposal to expand Lok Sabha strength by nearly 50%, increasing seats from 543 to 816.

The government claims the South's share remains stable at around 24%, even after expansion.

However, critics like M. K. Stalin argue that while percentages remain similar, northern states will gain more seats in absolute numbers due to higher population growth, potentially shifting political influence.
