Smart Meter Project Cannot Be Scrapped, Electricity Department Tells Human Rights Commission
Goa, June 24 -- Executive Engineer of the Electricity Department, Kashinath Shetye, informed the Human Rights Commission that the department has submitted its response along with all legal arguments in connection with the smart meter case, which is scheduled for hearing on July 15.
During the proceedings, Shetye stated that the smart meter project is being implemented as part of a Central Government policy and therefore cannot be withdrawn or scrapped. He noted that the initiative has already been rolled out across the country as part of a nationwide programme aimed at modernising electricity distribution systems.
