Goa, July 9 -- Former Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Shanti Mandrekar, accompanied by a group of women, staged a protest march to the Electricity Department office in Vasco on Thursday, demanding relief from the continuous rise in electricity bills.

Addressing the gathering, Mandrekar questioned the government's decision to repeatedly increase electricity tariffs and impose penalties, stating that the growing financial burden was becoming unbearable for poor and middle-class families.

She also criticised the functioning of the Electricity Department, alleging that consumers seeking redressal of their grievances are made to move from one office floor to another without receiving any meaningful assistance.
