Goa, Oct. 28 -- At least 39 people have been killed after two high-speed trains collided in Spain's central Toledo province on Wednesday, according to reports. The accident prompted the suspension of rail services connecting Madrid with Ciudad Real and Andalusia.

Spain's rail infrastructure operator ADIF confirmed the collision, while footage broadcast by regional television showed a derailed train, damaged carriages and wreckage scattered along an embankment.

A passenger told COPE radio that those aboard heard a massive roar and a prolonged impact before seeing a wrecked train through a window. The crash comes nine months after a separate high-speed train collision near Adamuz in Cordoba province killed 46 people.
