Scotland Beat Haiti 1-0 for First World Cup Victory in 36 Years
Goa, June 14 -- Scotland marked their return to the FIFA World Cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over Haiti in Group C at Boston Stadium near Foxborough, just outside Boston. John McGinn, Scotland's captain and Aston Villa midfielder, scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute after his shot deflected off a defender and went past Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide.
This win gave Scotland their first World Cup victory since defeating Sweden 2-1 in Italy in 1990, ending a 36-year drought for wins at the tournament and their first major-tournament victory since Euro 96. The 64,000-capacity stadium was packed primarily with Scottish fans who traveled in large numbers to support the Tartan Army during Scotland's first World Cup campaign since 1998....
