India, March 24 -- Sarpanchs and panch members from Navelim, Cavelossim, and Varca met Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday, urging immediate intervention to address the worsening sewage pollution in the Sal River.

Representatives highlighted that the river, considered the lifeline of Salcete, is facing severe contamination due to untreated sewage allegedly flowing from drains in Fatorda and Navelim areas. They warned that the situation is adversely affecting livelihoods and daily life in the region.

The delegation also met the Fatorda MLA and expressed gratitude for facilitating discussions with relevant departments. They stressed the urgent need for coordinated action to curb pollution and restore the health of the river.
