Goa, July 26 -- Tensions escalated in Quepem after volunteers of the Dhyan Foundation and local supporters protested a 12-hour relocation notice issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate following the demolition of the Zambaulim cattle shelter. Protesters alleged authorities acted swiftly to evict rescued cattle while no arrests had been made in connection with the demolition. They said injured animals, pregnant cows and calves had been left displaced and demanded action against those responsible, along with compensation for the shelter's infrastructure. Authorities maintained the relocation order was issued in the interest of public safety, sanitation and animal welfare.
