Goa, Oct. 11 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed Prakash Rajpurohit, a 2010-batch IAS officer, as a Deputy Election Commissioner, filling the vacancy created by the premature repatriation of Sanjay Kumar.

The appointment comes amid concerns over the administrative hierarchy within the poll body, particularly regarding the handling of files related to its Information Technology (IT) department.

Rajpurohit's appointment is significant as the Election Commission reviews the allocation of responsibilities among its senior officials. Sanjay Kumar, who served as Deputy Election Commissioner from August 2024 until August 2026, was in charge of the Electoral Rolls and IT divisions.
