Evian, June 17 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for enhanced protection of global maritime trade routes and the safety of seafarers while addressing G7 leaders, including US President Donald Trump, during a session on international cooperation and solidarity.

Highlighting the human impact of the ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Prime Minister said the conflict had resulted in the loss of lives and property in several friendly nations and had disrupted global commerce through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
