India, March 22 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday became the longest-serving head of a government in India, completing 8,931 days in public office. He surpassed the record previously held by Pawan Kumar Chamling, who served as Sikkim's chief minister for 8,930 days over 24 years.

PM Modi's political journey began as the chief minister of Gujarat, a post he held for over 13 years from October 7, 2001, to May 21, 2014. During this tenure, he became the state's longest-serving chief minister, winning four consecutive terms in 2001, 2002, 2007, and 2012. He later assumed office as India's Prime Minister in 2014 and was re-elected in 2019 and 2024, making him a three-term Prime Minister.
