Goa, June 16 -- Large heaps of plastic waste dumped along the banks of the River Sal near the wholesale fish market have triggered serious environmental concerns among local residents and environmental activists, who fear the pollution could worsen with the onset of the monsoon.

With heavy rains expected in the coming weeks, there is growing apprehension that the accumulated plastic waste may be washed into the river, posing a threat to its fragile ecosystem and potentially impacting nearby agricultural lands.
