Oil Tanker Hit by Unknown Projectile Near Strait of Hormuz, Fire Erupts Off Oman Coast
Goa, July 7 -- An oil tanker caught fire after being struck by an "unknown projectile" off the coast of Oman near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz on Monday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
In a statement, the British maritime security agency said the southbound tanker was hit on its port side, triggering a fire onboard.
"A tanker has reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the port side causing a fire, whilst travelling southbound," the UKMTO said.
The agency confirmed that no casualties were reported and there was no immediate indication of any environmental damage resulting from the incident.
