Goa, Sept. 19 -- The Tata Group is facing a fresh leadership dispute after Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, became the only board member to vote against N Chandrasekaran's reappointment as Tata Sons chairman for another five years.

Chandrasekaran, 63, had announced last month that he would step down when his existing tenure ends in February 2027. However, the Tata Sons board voted on September 17 to extend his term, bringing the disagreement between Tata Sons and Tata Trusts into the open.

Noel Tata subsequently described the resolution as a "legal nullity", arguing that the reappointment did not comply with the group's internal governance arrangements.
