Goa, Aug. 14 -- The National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) has strongly opposed the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, describing it as a draconian measure that could threaten civil society organisations, religious institutions and people's movements.

The NFF warned that stricter provisions under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) could create fear among organisations working with fishers, farmers and vulnerable communities, particularly those raising concerns against policies and projects they consider harmful.

NFF General Secretary Olencio Simoes said democracy cannot survive when organisations and individuals defending people's rights are silenced.
