Navelim Villagers Oppose Demolition of 200-Year-Old Cross for Road Expansion
Goa, Aug. 29 -- Congress leader Adv. Pratima Coutinho, social worker Carmo Carneiro and several villagers from the Navelim constituency have urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to protect and relocate a nearly 200-year-old cross that is proposed to be demolished as part of the road expansion at Navelim Jacknibhand.
The villagers have put forward suggestions to the authorities, urging them to consider the religious and cultural significance of the cross before proceeding with the project.
They said the cross holds deep sentimental value for the local community, with faith and religious traditions associated with it having been passed down through generations of families.
