Goa, Aug. 1 -- A Margao court has imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on a guarantor for furnishing false information while standing surety for an accused in a financial fraud case, after the accused absconded following his release on bail.

The accused had been arrested for allegedly cheating a woman from Margao of Rs.3.30 lakh by promising to sell her a two-wheeler. He was later granted bail but allegedly violated the conditions of his release and went missing.

During efforts to trace him, police found that both the accused's and the guarantor's mobile phones were switched off. Subsequent inquiries revealed that the guarantor had submitted an incorrect mobile number in the surety documents.
