Goa, July 8 -- According to the survivor's complaint, she was allegedly forced to consume alcohol during a party held on the night of her wedding and was tortured with cigarettes by her sisters-in-law. She further claimed that she was assaulted after resisting the alleged abuse.

The woman also alleged that her husband and sisters-in-law frequently hosted parties with friends at their residence. When she objected to these gatherings, her father-in-law allegedly dismissed her concerns, saying such parties were a pastime of affluent families.

Based on her complaint, police initially registered a case against her husband and father-in-law under provisions relating to dowry harassment, assault, and criminal intimidation.
