Goa, Sept. 12 -- The sit-in protest against the Abhinandan Lodha project in Karapur has been called off after 161 days, following the Karapur-Sarvan Panchayat's issuance of a "stop-work" notice to the project.

The protesters said the decision to suspend the agitation was taken in view of the latest development, but clarified that their opposition to the project remains unchanged.

They said the legal battle against the project will continue and warned that the protest would be resumed if necessary.

The protesters maintained that calling off the sit-in was not an end to their campaign, but a temporary step following the Panchayat's action against the project. They said they would continue to monitor developments and pursue legal remedies...
