Goa, May 10 -- Indian-origin candidates recorded significant victories across several boroughs during the 2025 United Kingdom council elections, highlighting the growing political presence of diaspora communities in local British governance.

The elections, held on Thursday with counting extending through Friday and Saturday, witnessed successful candidates emerging from Labour, Conservative and independent backgrounds in boroughs including Brent, Hounslow, Croydon and Swindon.

One of the biggest highlights came in Brent Council, where Angela Joyce D'Souza scripted history after winning the Wembley Hill ward for the Labour Party. Her victory marked the first time a woman from her community had been elected to Brent Council.
