India Rejects UN Human Rights Body's Remarks On Delhi Protest Detentions
Goa, Oct. 11 -- India on Sunday rejected the UN human rights body's concerns over the detention of thousands of protesters in New Delhi, describing its remarks as "unwarranted" and an unacceptable interference in the country's internal affairs.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said India's Constitution guaranteed the right to peaceful assembly, subject to maintaining public order and safety. It defended law enforcement authorities, stating that they acted in accordance with the law, while courts remained available to address grievances.
