Goa, Oct. 31 -- The INDIA bloc on Saturday held a symbolic 'public impeachment' of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in New Delhi, with former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar chairing the proceedings.

Kharge said the Opposition had no personal enmity with the CEC but wanted the Election Commission to function impartially. He also warned that universal adult franchise, guaranteed under Article 326 of the Constitution, was under serious threat.

The Opposition will hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, demanding accountability over alleged vote chori and electoral roll irregularities.
